Practical Matters

FOR WHOM: The NOISE Summer School aims at advanced MA students as well as postgraduate and PhD-students. Applicants should have a background in the field of Gender and Women's Studies. The summer school provides special and separate tuition seminars for MA-students and PhD-students.

WHEN and WHERE: The Summer School takes place from Tuesday August 17 until Saturday August 28 in Granada, Spain. Arrival is preferably one day before the 17th and departure one day after the 28th.

APPLICATION: The registration is now closed. The outcome is expected in the beginning of June.

ACCOMMODATION: Utrecht University in combination with the University of Granada can arrange accommodation for all participants. More information on reservations and payment will follow soon. Please note that all participants will be allocated rooms; it is not possible to choose your own room. To do this as fairly as possible, we will use a draw to allocate rooms. NOISE participants will share a room.

HOW TO GET TO GRANADA:
Flying – Granada:
There are now international flights to Granada from about 6 locations. There are many more flights to Malaga so many people fly to Malaga and then get a bus or hire a car. Granada airport is 12km from the city center. On arrival it is best to get a taxi from the airport so that you can get to your accommodation without walking through the streets with your luggage. The taxi costs about 28 euros. Check out: Granada Travel Info for more information.

Train– Granada:
The train station is fairly central and is in Avenida de Andaluces off Avenida de la constitución. Granada is not on a high speed line. The talgo takes about 5 and a half hours from Madrid. Seville is 4 hours by train. Most people choose the bus rather than the train when coming from Malaga or Almeria. The Spanish Train Company RENFE has a good web site giving full information about trains in Spain in English. Check out the RENFE website for more information.

NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: maximum 60.

CREDITS: 7.5 ECTS. After fulfilment of all requirements (preparation of assignments and reading, active participation and final essay of 10 - 15 pages), participants receive the NOISE Certificate from Utrecht University for 210 hours of work.

TUITION FEES: The tuition fee of 550 euros is inclusive of reading materials, but exclusive of accommodation, subsistence costs (i.e. evening meals, drinks etc) and possible excursions.
A NOISE grant is available for two students from every NOISE partner university, see the list on this website. This includes a tuition waiver and partial financial contribution to travel and accommodation. If you want to apply for the grant of your university, please check with your local contact-person for the application procedure.
Participants have to make their own travel and visa arrangements. They also have to take care of proper medical, travel and damage insurance coverage.

WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
  • Working language will be English.
  • Preparation: the participants are required to prepare the readings and the assignments sent to them in advance.
