Art Programme

The Art Committee of the 7th European Feminist Research Conference has put together a special art programme that runs parallel to the scientific programme. Click here for an overview of the several parts of the programme.

Encores

The 7th European Feminist Research Conference will host a series of masterclasses (Encores) with the keynote speakers of the conference for both students that participate in the conference and Utrecht University students. Undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and post doc researchers are all warmly welcomed to sign up for an Encore of her choice. The Encore-programme allows students to discuss their research with influential gender scholars in an informal setting. An Encore consists of max. 10 students that submit a research proposal, a report on three of the keynote speaker’s primary texts, and a question for the Professor before the conference takes place. The Professor will discuss the questions posed, and a discussion with students will follow. Utrecht University students can get credits (2,5 or 7,5 ECTS) and students from other universities will get a certificate for participation. Participation in the Encores is free of charge.

The key note speakers who will give an Encore are:
1) Prof. dr. Sara Ahmed, Goldsmiths University of London
2) Prof. dr. Karen Barad, University of California at Santa Cruz
3) Prof. dr. Claire Colebrook, University of Edinburgh
4) Dr. Amade M’charek, University of Amsterdam
5) Prof. dr. Anne McClintock, University of Wisconsin-Madison
6) Prof. dr. Griselda Pollock, University of Leeds
7) Prof. dr. Gloria Wekker, Utrecht University
For their profiles please visit the Key Lecturers under the button content on this website.

Interested students can sign up for an Encore by sending a one-page letter of motivation and a short c.v. before April 15, 2009 to the coordinator of the Encore programme: dr. Iris van der Tuin (i.vandertuin@uu.nl). Please mention the key note speaker in whose Encore you would like to participate. Selected students will be notified by April 20th with a letter explaining the procedures of the Encores.

The International Centre of Information and Archive for the Women Movement (IIAV) has been so kind to create a space in their library where all the publications of the key note speakers can be found before, during and after the conference. The books are available for inspection and copy facilities are present. This is, for example, of benefit for students who will write a paper on account of their participation in the encores.

WeAVE Student Day at the Conference: Thursday June 4, 2009

WeAVE is the ATHENA working group that provides a space for the ‘future of women’s studies’ by creating a forum for dialogue, exchange, and interaction among gender studies students, postgraduate students, PhDs, post-doc researchers, and junior teachers. On June 4 a special WeAVE Student Day will take place in Utrecht from 9 am - 4 pm.
The main aim of the Student Day is to discuss issues related to the particular situation of becoming professionals in research and professionals in the labour market. Furthermore, we would like to offer space for exploring and sharing experience regarding the intersection of personal life and life as professionals. Students should be able to get a firmer insight into processes of academia and hence, the possibility to think of their own situatedness within this field, developing ideas for their future careers and inspiration for taking new ways. Beside the official programme there will be plenty of time for networking and we strongly encourage participants to take part in.
There will be a serial of workshops with different themes touching these intersections and a closing plenary on Sunday, June 7 from 1 pm to 2.30 pm, where we will disperse outcomes from the Student Day.

Themes of the workshops will be:
A)    The Pleasures and Problems of Publishing: Reflections on Writing, Editing and Translating Feminist Scholarly Articles
B)     Mapping Women’s Studies programmes in Europe
C)    How to live a life beyond heteronormativity at the university/labour market etc.?
D)    Assessment/Evaluation of Women’s Studies
